These easy-to-make hot Hawaiian Sliders are perfect for parties, gatherings, and potlucks. Make a double batch to feed a crowd!
Ham and Swiss Sliders are awesome, but with the addition of pineapple slices, melting cheese, and an amazing topping, these will be a hit!
Get ready, people! I’m about to share my absolute favorite recipe for feeding a crowd at parties or get-togethers. These hot sandwiches are full of juicy ham and melted swiss cheese and topped with a slice of pineapple.
Cheesy and gooey, and last about 3 seconds on a party table. Bring these little beauties out and you’ll be the most popular person there!
I love how low effort these are with a BIG result. They take just a few minutes to make. Just assemble then cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes in the oven – around 25 minutes total. Remove the foil, and get out of the way! The people are coming!
I regularly make 2-3 pans of these for bigger groups as party food, or as game day eats, and never ever have leftovers. Set them on the table and watch people hover over them, hoping for a second (or third) one!
Make sliders ahead of time and bake at a party, or in your own kitchen, you’ll be glad you did! Serve with some condiments (if you MUST) like extra mustard, maybe some pickles – but trust me, you won’t need them!!

What makes these Hawaiian?
Well, the rolls, for one. I use to make these with. They’re soft, sweet, and the perfect size to make these! The pineapple we add to the sliders just seals the deal. While I’m fairly certain they don’t claim them as their own in Hawaii, let’s just roll with it, okay? You can just call them Ham and Cheese Sliders with Pineapple if you want!
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, you can assemble the sliders ahead of time and refrigerate them. However, it’s best to bake them just before serving to keep the bread from becoming soggy.
I operate on a 3 sliders per person rule. Just in case.
Any kind of leftover ham from Christmas or Easter, or you can get shaved ham, or packaged honey ham and call it good.
Use a serrated knife to slice the entire pack of rolls in half horizontally, keeping them connected, to easily add your fillings.
Why you’ll love this recipe
- Make-ahead. You can prepare the buns, meat, and cheese and combine the topping ahead of time. Pop the rolls in a baking dish covered with foil. Take to a party, or keep for yourself! Heat the buttery topping right before you want to bake them.
- Easy substitutions (see notes)
- Weeknight dinners. Not just for parties or as an appetizer! Make a quick Garden Salad and serve these as an easy weeknight dinner.
What side dishes go well with Hawaiian sliders?
That depends on the occasion and meal type. If you’re serving as a main, or at a picnic, do potato salad, coleslaw, chips and pickles.
If you are serving these as an appetizer or party snack, you’ll want a variety of other snacks. Try Meatball Bombs, Ham and Cheese Palmiers or take it sweet, and do a Cookie Dough Dip or Brownie Batter Dip.
Kylee’s Notes & FAQs
Tips & Tricks:
Run a serrated knife through the roll edges to make them easier to pull apart into individual sandwiches.
If you are making more than 1 dozen, just grab a big rimmed baking sheet and double up!
Adding caramelized onions or dried onions into the sliders is a great way to bring more flavor. Do it!!
Substitutions & Additions:
Dijon mustard is a great substitute for the whole grain mustard, and honey mustard is a downright genius idea.
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce mixed in the topping adds a lovely savory/salty flavor.
Use garlic powder in place of fresh garlic if that’s what you have!
A little onion powder or diced onion in the butter adds a great layer of deliciousness too.
A teaspoon of brown sugar in the butter mixture takes these to a whole new sweet level!
Switch the swiss cheese for provolone or cheddar.
Storage:
In the unlikely event you have any sliders not eaten, you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheated in the oven when you want them!
Recipe Ingredients and Possible Substitutes
The full list of ingredients and quantities is found in the printable recipe card below.
- Slider Buns. Any slider rolls will do, but I LOVE King’s Hawaiian rolls if you can find them. They’re slightly sweet and soft. Squishy. Delicious. Dinner rolls, potato rolls or sweet rolls of any kind can also be used.
- Swiss Cheese. Provolone also works in this, as well as a mild cheddar cheese. Avoid super strong flavored cheeses. They will overpower the other ingredients. Besides, what better combination is ham & swiss cheese?
- Deli Ham. Any kind of ham is fair game. Country ham, deli sliced ham, leftover sliced ham. Bring it. You want it to be thin sliced, so they are easy to eat. You can also do sliced turkey if you have it on hand.
- Pineapple. Fresh or canned, it doesn’t matter. Fresh will need to be sliced thinner, since it is harder than canned.
- Butter. I use salted butter.
- Poppy Seeds. Totally optional, but they look so pretty and add a subtle crunch. Yum!
- Mustard. I use whole grain, but Dijon mustard is fabulous in this
- Garlic. Freshly minced, you could sub garlic powder if you wish! I also love minced onions in the topping, they add a layer of flavor that I enjoy.
