Make your own Peanut Butter Granola, and put yourself in charge of your own delicious breakfast or trail mix with this easy and tasty recipe. Perfect for breakfast, snacking or eating as trail mix!
Step by step photos and instructions below!
Homemade Peanut Butter Granola is one of life’s little pleasures. I am always into making things at home that I can buy in the store, because I love to control the ingredients that go in, as well as make a flavor combination that I can’t buy.
This homemade granola recipe is a great recipe to go alongside my original healthy granola recipe, but is so good in its own right, you should totally make both.
Peanut butter goes with everything, it’s IN so many things, and everyone seems to love it!
We use some caramel syrup and maple syrup this recipe, which makes it delicious, but you can absolutely change it up for whatever you have on hand. Honey and agave syrup work well if you prfer.
I like to mix mine up and some dried fruits. Raisins are good, but dates, and cherries are a yummy addition.

Why this recipe works
- Delicious. We love peanut butter!
- Easy to make. Mix it, bake it, and let the granola cool. Then scarf.
- Easy to customize. Need something dairy free? Awesome. This one checks the box (definitely leave out the chocolate, though). Pair with some almond or soy milk, or just eat as trail mix!
I have included step by step photos and instructions, as well as tips and tricks in the post. If you’d rather skip all that, scoot right on down to the recipe card located at the bottom of the post.
Kylee’s Notes & FAQs
How do I know when this granola is done?
This granola can overcook easily if you have thin edges on the sheet pan. I would recommend making sure that the granola is spread evenly on the bottom of the pan, but not too thinly. It should be a golden brown when done. If it is too soft, you can bake it for an additional 3-5 minutes. It will harden as it cools.
How do I store my granola?
Seal in an airtight container and keep at room temperature for up to one month. They can be frozen and stored in the freezer for up to 1 year. Keep a jar on your counter ready for snacking!
Additions
Add some chia seeds (just a tablespoon!), switch up the nuts and chocolate or add fruit.
You could also use almond butter in place of peanut butter.
Equipment Needed
You will need the following:
- Mixing bowl and spoon
- Measuring Tools
- Sheet pan. I used a sheet pan measuring 12 ½ x 17 ½ inches which is the standard sheet pan size.
- Parchment paper

- Creamy peanut butter. You can use crunchy peanut butter if you want an extra crunchy element to this granola. Natural peanut butter also works well.
- Maple syrup. The maple syrup can be switched out for honey or agave.
- Caramel syrup: For a healthier option, increase the amount of maple syrup or honey instead of using caramel syrup.
- Vanilla extract, cinnamon & nutmeg.
- Old fashioned oats: This recipe will not work with instant oats. It’s important to use old fashioned oats.
- Dark chocolate chips: If you decide to add chocolate chips, use your favorite type here. You can use semi sweet, milk chocolate, white chocolate, or even make it more peanut butter-like with some peanut butter chips.
- Salted peanuts: try this with another type of nut if you would like, including chopped walnuts, pecans, brazil nuts or hazelnuts.
- Sliced almonds. These are awesome, but you could use slivered almonds if that is what you can find.
- Coconut flakes. I use the unsweetened kind, but if you like things sweet, opt for the sweetened version.
- Sea salt. This helps balance this healthy peanut butter granola.

Get prepped
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F and line a sheet pan with parchment paper. Set aside.
Make the granola
In a large microwavable bowl, combine the peanut butter, maple syrup, and caramel syrup. Microwave for 30 seconds and stir well (you can do this on the stove top too – be careful not to burn).
Stir in the vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Add in the rolled oats, salted peanuts, and sliced almonds. Stir everything thoroughly until well coated. If you find the peanut butter mixture has cooled, it will make it more difficult to incorporate the oats. If that’s the case, add in an additional 1-2 tablespoons of maple syrup or some melted coconut oil to help with this.
Bake and cool
Spread granola evenly onto the sheet pan.
Bake in the oven for 20 minutes, stirring just one time.
Remove from oven and sprinkle on the coconut flakes and bake for another 3 minutes or until golden brown.
Once done baking, let cool and harden before adding in the dark chocolate chips and sea salt, totally optional.
Allow the granola to cool completely before breaking it up and serving or storing granola.
