BBQ Ribs are a fabulous and family-friendly treat! Make this recipe for juicy, tasty grilled ribs and you’ll be a grill-hero!
This BBQ Grilled Ribs recipe is one of my favorite ways to make ribs when I have forgotten to plan dinner.
It’s still grilling season around these parts. To be fair, it’s pretty much ALWAYS grilling season for us. In Arizona, we have very mild seasons (except for summer) so it’s a year-round kind of thing!
I grab my ribs at Safeway. My favorites are the Signature SELECT™ Pork Loin Back Ribs Extra Meaty kind. Found in the meat section, duh. I then skip right around to the deli to grab some sides too.
This time I picked up a yummy antipasto and some coleslaw in the deli, but they also had deviled egg potato salad, ambrosia dessert salad, and Caesar Salad as well.
You can’t just throw a rack of ribs on the grill and expect them to be good! You need to pre-cook a little first. You can cook them in the oven, instant pot, or slow cooker. Or, you can simmer gently on the stove like I did before grilling.
Since it’s so hot here, Instead of heating my house for a long, slow cook time, I simmered the ribs a little (called par-boiling). I rubbed them with simple seasoning and slathered them in BBQ sauce. Then I threw them on the grill for some high heat charring.
I shopped at Safeway in my local area, but you can also find Signature SELECT™ Pork Loin Back Ribs Extra Meaty exclusively at the Albertsons Companies family of stores, including Albertsons/Safeway, ACME Markets, Jewel-Osco, Vons, Randalls, Shaw’s Supermarket, Star Market, and Tom Thumb.
Discover savings at Safeway (Safeway also offers Grocery Delivery and Drive Up & Go™ for convenient ways to shop – this has been a lifesaver for me!)

Kylee’s Notes & FAQs
- Choose ribs that are meaty.
- Remove the silver skin (on the back – see below)
- Serve racks of 2 or 3, or in singles to make it easy for everyone to grab.
- You may use a store-bought “rib rub”, but I like to make my own using whatever I have in the pantry.
- If you like things sweet – add a little brown sugar to the rub!
- Like it spicy? Cayenne or chipotle chili powder is a great addition.
- Choose your favorite barbecue sauce – it definitely adds a flavor that you’ll love!
- Serve with coleslaw, cornbread or potato salad.
